Homegrown in
Canada

Hi! We’re Laura
& Carla

we’re the sister duo behind ulivit (pronounced you-live-it) and we’re passionate about healthy foods!

Crafted in beautiful British Columbia. We grew up in sunny Saskatchewan, land of living skies and endless regenerative farm fields.  We learned as kids that food doesn’t magically appear at the grocery store, it grows in our backyard.  And as adults, while Laura was working in healthcare, we learned first-hand how what we eat can significantly impact our health. Dropping in on nutrition classes, Laura was introduced to the thing that would change our lives forever… protein packed pulses. These little plants can feed the world and save our planet! Thus began our passion for pulses and the creation of ulivit where we are trying to share the incredible benefits of Canadian-grown pulses with everyone.

Meet the world’s most incredible food…pulses

Pulses, also known as legumes, are the dry, edible seeds of plants in the legume family. You’ll know these superfoods as dry beans, peas, lentils and chickpeas.

  • Rich in protein, fibre, antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals.

  • naturally gluten free, non-GMO, cholesterol free, allergen friendly, low in fat and have a low glycemic index.

  • Pulses help reduce your risk of diabetes, cholesterol, heart disease, obesity and even some cancers.

  • Fight climate change by reducing greenhouse gases - pulses use 1/2 the total fossil fuel of other field crops because they create their own nitrogen.

  • Very low water footprint. By comparison, the water footprints to produce a kilogram of beef, pork, chicken and soybeans are 43, 18, 11 and 5 times higher.

  • One of the most environmentally-friendly & sustainable sources of protein in the world, which is why the United Nations declared World Pulses Day!

  • We need to double food production to feed 10 billion people by 2050. Pulses’ low carbon footprint, water and soil efficiency make them the sustainable food of the future.

What we
stand for
is what we stand on!

We know eating better is our path to a healthier future, and we’re committed to making sustainable decisions that respect the earth.
